June 2013 is upon us, and following the success of last year’s collaboration with The Cambridge School of Art, we are once again welcoming two of their most promising fashion students to showcase their Degree Show designs in our Cambridge Boutique.
This year we are proud to support Polish born Asia Prusinowska and Thanh Vu from Vietnam.
Asia designs her collections by hand-dying felt and silk, which she then drapes directly onto the dummy. Her striking one-off pieces convey emotional themes born of Asia’s personal experiences. Asia’s creativity has also captured the attention of a few artists and organizations. She was awarded a scholarship by Cambridge Style Week after participating in the New Designer category at their February fashion show. Thomas Horst, an established American felt artist has invited Asia to show her collection alongside his at this year’s edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week in July.
Thanh Vu’s label GAM takes inspiration from heroic female figures throughout history. In his designs he joins his own interpretations of ancient goddesses of war with glamour and suggestions of military themes. Thanh makes use of spectacular draping, fine embroidery and crochet techniques. Each garment, whether destined for the red carpet or a ready-to-wear capsule, offers an exuberant, feminine silhouette blended with sharp tailoring and textural details to excite even the most discerning of fashion followers. We are pleased to hear that Thanh’s fashion editorial will be published in “Urban Coco magazine” and will soon be available to purchase in Harrods and Selfridges.
Finally, we would like to mention the star themed work of Louise Coleman. Her separates and 1950’s inspired dresses offer rebellious silhouettes and showcase a multitude of techniques including digital print, laser cutting, and applique.
The designs of Vu and Prusinowska will be on display at Baska from June 5th – 12th. The Cambridge School of Art Degree Show begins on June 7th and their fashion show will take place on June 13th. For further information please check the University website: http://www.cambridgeschoolofart.com/
